An Act of Kindness for a Needy Uncle on the street

Saw this uncle on my way back, it was already close to 10 and he was still squatting by the side of road. Where people walked past him, he will say "thank you" to them. I decided that I should do something nice for him. I walked a short distance to buy 3 otah sticks (cost me only $1.20) and passed them to him. He was very grateful and thank me for this act of kindness, I felt happy to make him happy as well.

Simple gesture like this can really make someone's day, for the receiver as well as giver. It also encourages others to do likewise and to take care of one another, especially those in need, thus forming a more gracious and cohesive society

Act of Kindness on the Street

I was approached by someone (non-local) on the directions to the train station so I gave her the info, "you walk in this direction, you will cross 2 junctions, you will see a shopping center, walk through it, there's a underpass leading you to the station."

Her mum later commented this, "the people here are so warm and friendly". I felt happy hearing this because it is a compliment not just to me but everyone in our country!

Metta Charity Run on 6 Sept 2014 (Sat), 7am to 11am at East Coast Park

Dear Friends,
If there is an activity that can allow you to do good, help the less fortunate, bond with your family members or friends and at the same time keep your body fit and healthy, would you choose to do it?
Our dear friend, Melissa, is organizing a charity run for Metta Welfare Association on 6 September 14 (Sat) and is inviting you to participate in this meaningful event. After the run, stay around for a mini carnival with food and games. There will also be performances and lucky draw. This is definitely a great opportunity for you and your family or friends to come together to give kindness and enjoy a morning of good workout.

Helping a Single Mum In Need

Dear Friends,
If you like these customizable hand-knitted items, do consider getting from our dear friend, Shyda. She is a single mum, with a 14 months old son, unemployed and trying to make ends meet by selling her crochet products, which includes brooches, hairclips, baby booties, beanies, headbands, bags, baby blankie. She is currently staying in a rental flat with her mum, who is working as a cleaner. She is in need of money to buy milk powder and clothes for her son, so do support her work if you can. I do admire her for not asking for any financial assistance directly but rather trying to earn it through her efforts and means.

If any friends are looking to give away preloved toddler clothing in good condition, do consider passing them to her as well. Thank you very much for your kindness !

Cause For Paws SG - Caring for our Community Cats

A great initiative set up for the love of cats. The mission of "Cause for Paws SG" is to raise funds by selling donated preloved and brand new items to defray medical and surgical cost for community cats in Singapore.
They do have quite a range of lovely items (see pictures below) up for grabs at reasonable prices. Even if you are not a cat lover, you will be heartened to know that buying from them is for a good cause. Do browse through their page and check out the items available here:
https://www.facebook.com/pages/Cause-For-Paws-SG/794509140572866?hc_location=timeline
Other ways that you can help to support this cause:
1. Donations for preloved items. Due to storage constraints, they will be collecting in batches till further notice. Should you have an item to donate to the cause, kindly PM them.
2. EMPTY MAC makeup containers ( powders, lipsticks, mascaras, eyeliners, lipliners, concealers etc). Every 6 containers gets the team a lipstick. MAC lipsticks are highly sought after and could help increase their fund raising by quite a bit.

There are many ways of giving kindness; loving animals, loving Mother Nature are all good examples of cultivating kindness and building a better tomorrow, not just for human beings, but for all living things under the sun.

Donate your Ring Tabs for a Good Cause

Dear Friends,
This is an act of kindness that most of us are capable of giving. The next time you are out for meals with your friends or family member, consider making a small effort to collect the ring tabs from the canned drinks that you have bought. Such ring tabs are useful for recycling to make artificial limbs for the disabled. Also, it is environmentally friendly to recycle the ring tabs.
You can get all your friends/ colleagues involved in this activity, consolidate all the ring tabs and bring them down to "Rings for Lives" Volunteer Group at their collection point. The group will bring all these donated ring tabs to the Prostheses Foundation of H.R.H The Princess Mother (Thailand), which provides free prostheses for under-privileged amputees, regardless of nationality or religion. "Rings for Lives" Volunteer Group will be travelling to Thailand in early November so you have a few months to collect the ring tabs, among friends and family members.
The collection point is at:
115A Commonwealth Drive #03-16
Singapore, Singapore 149596
Please contact them at 64743997 to arrange for collection before dropping by.
More Info:
"With other materials combined with pull rings from cans, prostheses made by Dr Therdchai Jivacate are lighter, more comfortable and 10 times less expensive than imported ones. Since the beginning, in 1992, the Foundation sends mobile units to rural areas providing prostheses to all under-privileged amputees. The mobile unit also provide services outside Thailand, like Malaysia, Laos, Myanmar & China."

Auntie Phyllis is a single mum with a 8-year-old son, whom she has difficulty taking care of, as business is poor due to increasing competition and syndicate sellers (who drives her away).
Therefore, it would be a really nice gesture if you can help by donating away some accessories (in good condition) that you don't need anymore, so that she can continue to earn a living and support her child through this business Please kindly drop a PM to Susan if you can help in any ways. Thank you so much for your kindness !
PS: If you see Auntie Phyllis on the street (she is usually around Hougang area), do support her if it is within your means. Every little effort counts !

Volunteer Groups in Singapore

Dear Friends,
If you wish to volunteer your time and service but are clueless on what's available out there, do check out this list of Volunteer Groups that I have compiled (to the best of my knowledge, feel free to add). You can look through these Facebook pages to better understand the mission of each group, the activities organized and type of support required. The good thing about these groups is that volunteering is totally ad hoc and no regular commitment is expected, so you can actually go try once and decide if you want to go back again the next time round. Most of these initiatives are set up by a group of like-minded friends, ordinary people like you and me, who have the passion to give and make a difference to the lives of the less fortunate. Please do give them your support as they do not rely on any help or grants from the government or any sponsors, which makes what they achieve very admirable.

Last but not least, my very own project to encourage friends to spread kindness around, to anyone, anywhere, anytime. Let's embrace kindness in our hearts and make it a lifelong mission to give, to help and to make our world a more beautiful place. Bringing the love, hope and happiness to others is certainly a good way to gaining happiness, meaning and fulfillment in life.
