The Chinese always want to "huat", especially during Chinese New Year. "Huat" means prosper, have lots of money, wealth and fortune. But do we really understand what is true fortune? Is it all about striking the windfall and having lots of money?
True fortune to me is the ability to spend what you earn, with the people you love, doing what you enjoy most. You may have millions in the bank, but they are not truly yours until you have the chance to spend them. Some people work their health off to accumulate lots of savings but are unable to enjoy due to poor health. Some people have lots of money to travel the world, go to the most beautiful places, but there is no one to enjoy with them. Some people hold high positions at work, receive high pay but are under tremendous stress all the time, even at night. I do not consider all these above mentioned examples as having good fortune and prosperity.
If you have a loving family, some closed friends, your basic needs fulfilled and you have some spare savings for rainy days, you can afford a holiday (even staycation) once in a while and most importantly, you are healthy and able to appreciate good food, beautiful scenery, then I think you are already very blessed and a person with good fortune and prosperity. You can have more, but you may lose even more. Being able to appreciate what we already have, makes us realise the fortune that is already with us.
I wish all my friends a Happy and Prosperous Chinese New Year, may you always be blessed with good health and happiness, as well as the wisdom and courage to choose what is really good for you. Huat Ahh !!
