Giving Kindness Is Benefiting Ourselves

While many perceive giving kindness as benefiting others, I see giving kindness as benefiting ourselves too. When we help someone and make him/ her happy, we feel happy too. When we are kind to others, we are more forgiving and tolerant towards others' shortcomings or mistakes, that gives us inner peace. When we make life better for others, we get a sense of satisfaction like no other. When we receive compliments on the good work we do, we feel proud of our efforts and raise our self confidence. When we look at the state of the poor, needy and suffering, we learn to count all the blessings that we have in life. When we learn that life is not all about ourselves and chasing all the material possession, we know we are living for a bigger purpose. When we have inspired others through kindness, we know we leave beautiful memories for them and for ourselves. Kindness generates a lot of positive energy to everyone and we need these positive energy to build a better world.
There will always be challenges and problems no matter which era we are in. However, if we help one another, I think we can overcome all these obstacles and move forward together. A better future starts from the good people sowing the seeds today. While our forefathers have helped to sow the seeds many years back and we are reaping their fruits of labour today, it is our responsibility now to sow the seeds of kindness so that our future generation can benefit from our efforts many years later. To start doing that, we take the smallest step today to be kind, to give kindness whenever we can, for it will lead on to bigger and greater things in time to come.

Giving Kindness Without Being Told

I realized that some hawker centers do not have the return tray policy/ corner. However, that does not mean that we cannot return our tray to the cleaner auntie/ uncle after consuming our food or bring them to the cleaning point. I think it is a gracious action to do if we can make an effort to leave the table clean and free of bowls & plates after consuming. Imagine you are in a popular eating place whereby the cleaners are overwhelmed by the number of tables to clear, wouldn't it be comforting to find a table which is clean or at least free of bowls/ plates so that you can put down your tray to consume your food without having to clear yourself or getting the cleaner to clear? If everyone makes a bit more effort to care for another person, we are definitely going to get more than just a pleasant dining experience.
My humble advice: Don't only do things because you are being told or because there is a certain reward/ recognition tagged to it. Try to do things for someone who probably never had the chance to thank you, because when you are able to do that, you will truly understand the meaning of giving smile emoticon
